Parenting strategy: what kind of environment are you creating?

I recently saw this on the National Association for Children of Addiction and really love the overall message. It speaks volumes to me about how much children learn by what they see. Children, especially those prior to 7 years old, learn through imitating, it's how they figure out the world and begin to make sense of things.

So what happens when things don't make sense, when children grow up in a unhealthy environment?

Then they learn that that way of life is normal. If children, "live with shame then they learn to hide who they really are." If children begin to learn that they are bad, then that becomes their identity.

So the question becomes, what kind of environment is your child in?

What speaks to you in this poem?
